about

It is too easy to simply say this is an album about the Holocaust. It is dedicated to the survivors and the victims. It is about old lands, old sounds, old words recaptured for a modern ear. It is about using your body, both to produce music and to survive. It is about the agency of joy, how to treat each day in terms of hope vs. despair. Anything can be subverted or substituted for a vision of the other. I learned this from Otto Friedrich's the Kingdom of Auschwitz. Inspiration for two of the tracks are drawn from Jerzy Kosinski's "The Painted Bird" which I plan on continue to develop musically. The psalm here is included because of Reb Nachman's tikkun. We will always be exploring ourselves, our history and our future because we can not afford to give up. Most important are Solzhenitsen's rules for surviving the gulag. Do not beg. Do not give up. Do not be afraid.
